Employee takes company car for three days of field work with two dogs. Brings company car back full of dog hair (black interior as well!). I’m inclined to instill a “no pets” policy in company cars from now on. It also now needs to be professionally cleaned because other employees don’t like dog hair on their clothing and are allergic to dogs. I like this employee and they are pretty darn good at their job, just not that aware of how their actions affect others. As an example sometimes poops and doesn’t leave the fan on in the toilet room.

Execute at dawn.

Take them aside, and ask them to split the cleaning bill, for obvious reasons such as the allergies of coworkers. Then, implement a no pets policy.

I probably wouldn’t go full ‘no pets’, but I would make it clear that it's their responsibility to return the car in the same condition it was taken. Most people would be aware of that when using company property for personal use, but some do need to be told.

Tell them they need to clean it and not be an inconsiderate asshole or you’ll be forced to impose a strict no pet policy and murder their dogs.
Ok maybe not the last part.

No pets policy, that’s the only way to avoid that.
Also, impose colossal fines for pet hair and such.

No pets, or employees pay for pro cleaning if they take pets.
If it’s only the one employee that takes their pets, then they need to know how they affect others by doing that. Perhaps figure out company cost to let employee take company car and offer to cover up to that for their rental if they must take pets.

I say you make them clean it. It’s company shared property and they should know better. After they spend hours getting every last hair out they’ll never want to do it again. Hell, they’d probably think twice about letting the dogs in their own car. I know I do. A 5 minute ride to the dog park equals 2 hours of vacuuming and using a lint roller for me. I have German Shepherd that sheds 500 hairs a minute.

Off with his head!
Just pull them aside to explain some employees have allergies and ask that they pay for the cleaning if they wish to take their pets with them.

Have them clean the car but the no fan thing is inexcusable

Is there a policy already in place that says the driver is responsible for damages/cleanings/etc? If not I’d say eat the cost on the cleanings and instill a no pets policy or if pets- must be professionally cleaned.
Having them pay for it without the policy enacted could lead to some backlash. Granted it doesn’t sound like this individual would be the type to offer cleaning it themselves or getting it cleaned even though they’re not being forced to.

I’d send them a nice, passive aggressive note regarding how much time, effort and cost cleaning the car will entail. And, include the following pic. Keep the damn car clean or something bad may happen.

this would not go over very well, we have a company sponsored pet calendar.

I have a Husky, I feel your pain x 100 12 months a year. Seriously love the dog but he sheds like 3 Pomeranians a week.

I think I’m leaning towards no pets, this is third time this has happened and not just by this person.

I think I am leaning towards no pets, or get a rental car.

pretty much this is what’s going to happen

Yeah NO. Huskies are the worst. Their owners have to vacuum multiple times a day. A friend of mine has TWO!! I bet his trash container each week is half trash/ half hair.

Gotta do what you gotta do, you can't be deep cleaning the seats whenever somebody uses the car.
